简介:

The Hong Kong University of Science & Technology

Professor J. Lam received a first class BSc degree in Mechanical
Engineering from the University of Manchester in 1983, and was awarded
the Ashbury Scholarship, the A.H. Gibson Prize, and the H. Wright Baker
Prize for his academic performance. He later obtained the MPhil and PhD
degrees from the University of Cambridge in 1985 and 1988, respectively.
For his doctoral and post-doctoral research, he was supported by the
Croucher Foundation Scholarship and Fellowship . He is the recipient of
an Outstanding Researcher Award of the University of Hong Kong.

Prior to joining the University of Hong Kong in 1993, Professor Lam held
lectureships at now the City University of Hong Kong and the University
of Melbourne. He was a Visiting Fellow of the Research School of
Physical Sciences and Engineering, Australian National University.
Professor Lam has close academic association with a number of
universities in Mainland China. He is Guest Professor of Huazhong
University of Science and Technology, Shandong University, Central South
University, Harbin Institute of Technology, and was Concurrent Professor
of the Northeastern University, Consulting Professor of South China
University of Technology.

On the professional service side, Professor Lam is a Chartered
Mathematician, Chartered Scientist, Fellow of Institute of Mathematics
and Its Applications, Fellow of Institution of Engineering and
Technology, Senior Member of Institute of Electrical and Electronics
Engineers, and Associate Member of Institution of Mechanical Engineers.
He also joined other learned societies as Fellow of the Cambridge
Philosophical Society and Fellow of the Cambridge Commonwealth Society.
Professor Lam is Associate Editor of Asian Journal of Control,
International Journal of Systems Science, International Journal of
Applied Mathematics and Computer Science, IEEE Transactions on Signal
Processing, Journal of the Franklin Institute, Automatica, Conference
Editorial Board of the IEEE Control Systems Society, Subject Editor of
Journal of Sound and Vibration, editorial member of IET Control Theory
and Applications, Open Electrical and Electronic Engineering Journal,
Research Letters in Signal Processing, Open Automation and Control
Journal, Dynamics of Continuous, Discrete and Impulsive Systems: Series
B (Applications & Algorithms), International Journal of Systems, Control
and Communications, and Journal of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
He has served as Editor-in-Chief of the IEE Proceedings: Control Theory
and Applications and as member of the IFAC Technical Committee on
Control Design. He is a reviewer of the Mathematical Reviews of the
American Mathematical Society. Professor Lam also serves as Panel Member
(Engineering) of the Research Grants Council, HKSAR.

Professor Lam has research interests in model reduction, robust control
and filtering, delay, singular systems, Markovian jump systems, and
multidimensional systems. He has published a monograph entitled Robust
Control and Filtering of Singular Systems
(co-authored with S. Xu) and
over 250 journal articles in these areas.

报告摘要:

The year 2016 has been referred as the Year when VR goes from virtual to
reality (BBC news). We have witnessed the launch of Oculus Rift; Samsung
VR gear; HTC Vive, Google Cardbox VR, Sony VR head set and Huawei VR.
The value of VR market is forecasted to reach USD150 billion by 2020.
This talk will explore the practical application of VR technology. The
current status of research and related problem usability problems will
be discussed. Examples will be presented to illustrate the results of
fundamental scientific research on visually induced-motion sensation
(VIMS), mass-customization of 3D binaural sound effects, accommodation /
convergence conflict, sense of tele-presence and audio noise
suppression.

Prof. Richard So received his BSc degree in Electronic Engineering and
PhD degree in Sound and Vibration (Human Factors) from University of
Southampton, England. He started his research into Virtual Reality (VR)
when he worked for the Super Cockpit Program͛ Research Program. Prof. So
is now a Professor of Industrial Engineering and Professor of
Bio-medical Engineering at the Hong Kong University of Science and
Technology. His research interests focus on human spatial vision and
binaural spatial hearing. He is a Fellow of the International Ergonomics
Association, a Chartered Fellow of the Royal Chartered Institute of
Ergonomics and Human Factors and a Fellow of the Hong Kong Chartered
Institute of Engineers. He is cute serving as the co-Editor-in-Chief of
Displays, Editor of Ergonomics and Scientific Editor of Applied
Ergonomics. He is on the drafting committee of ISO International
Workshop Agreement IWA3 on Image Safety and Commission Internationale de
L’eclairage (CIE) Technical Committee TC1-67 and expert panel for ISO
working group on dynamic image safety. Prof. So has over 100 referred
publications, 2 patents and one Technology Start-up. He is also a
pioneer in Experiential Learning & Design Thinking.
